A Local Place I Want Tourists to Visit
By Ueda Nao
A local place I want tourists to visit is Souka in Saitama, because Souka has a very interesting history of literature. If you visit Souka, you can spend a good time there, and you can learn about Souka deeply. Souka is the town where I live. So, I would be glad if you learned about Souka and introduced it to many people. Souka has two good points. I will introduce them.
First, Souka has an interesting history of literature. Do you know Matsuo Bashou? He is a very famous poet in Japan. He visited all parts of Japan with his disciple, and he composed many Haiku. He collected his own Haiku, and edited a book. The title of the book is "Okuno Hosomichi." This is a very famous book. He composed a Haiku in Souka, when he was very tired. So, his Haiku said "I am very tired, my body is very lean, and my baggage is very heavy." Like this, he was tired. His statue is in Souka. I want many people to visit his statue, and I want you to try to make a Haiku there.
Second, Souka is famous for rice crackers. I like rice crackers very much. Rice crackers made in Souka are called Souka Senbei. There are a lot of rice cracker shops in Souka. You can make a rice cracker by yourself there, and you can eat it. It is very delicious! Souka Senbei have many flavors. For example, there are soy sauce, granulated sugar, miso garlic, pepper, powdered green tea, sesame, shrimp, and so on. In addition, you can print some words on a rice cracker. It is very cute. So, I want you to make your own special rice cracker.
Souka is not famous in the world. Souka is not a big town, but Souka has an interesting history and a local specialty. You can feel Japan when you visit Souka. I think Souka is a very wonderful and charming town. I like Souka! So, I want tourists to visit Souka.
