中２対象英語講演会

　6月7日（金）5時間目に、本学園英語講師であるBradley先生とKalie先生による英語講演会が開催されました。タイトルは「The Benefits of an International Education」 （国際教育の利点）でした。講演会は、ワークショップ形式で行われ、お二人の先生からの様々な問いかけに対して、周囲の生徒と一緒に考えたり、話し合いながら進みました。日本人が持っているアメリカやアメリカ人に対する固定観念について意見を出し合ったり、海外で学ぶ目的についても話し合いました。Bradley先生とKalie先生が、来日前に日本や日本人に対して持っていた固定観念についても、話しをしてくださり、生徒達からは、自然と笑いが起こりました。お二人の先生からの、海外で学ぶことで「多様性を受け入れる寛容さを身につけ、視野を広げよう」というメッセージを生徒達は受け留めていました。現中学2年生は、来年の中３の夏休みにカナダ語学研修に参加する機会があります。また、高校では、姉妹校のオーストラリアのSt. Aidan’s への留学制度があります。　海外で学ぶチャンスを利用して、世界に羽ばたいて欲しいと思います。講演の使用言語は英語でしたが、生徒達は内容をしっかり聞き取り、協力してワークシートを完成させることができました。英語のリスニング力とまとめる力もついてきています。

I’m really thankful that I could speak about International Education here at Miwada. I spent my university years studying politics and international relations, and always trying to find programs that would allow me to travel and pursue my major. I tried my best to participate in as many study abroad programs, and off-campus programs as possible for two reasons. First, because I strongly felt that meeting people from around the world gives us perspective and teaches us empathy. Second, because these programs provide structure and help us really get to know and be a part of new cultures, instead of just passing by as we often do on vacation.

I was very happy the students were able to participate in my presentation, and I hope it got them thinking about their own possibilities for the future. For my whole life, cross-cultural learning and international education has been an interest of mine, so I was very happy to share my interests with the Junior 2 class as many of them prepare to head abroad themselves.
